Every new business has a first day and a first step. Ours was on February 4, 2021 when our founder, Dawn, headed out for the first donation pick-up for Repurposed Lives. There is nothing fancy about this video that was shot on the fly, but it marks the first step towards building Repurposed Lives, literally years after conceiving the idea. Needing to build a model for a graduate school project, Dawn pulled the idea for this social business out of a drawer and decided to test her theory that it was possible to recycle old parts in order to help restore young hearts. We are thankful to Nicole Britton with The Twig who reached out to her network to help us gather our first round of test subjects, errr.. donations.

We learned so much from recycling our first batch of donations which totaled 21.29 pounds! From this collection we cleaned and prepared stuffed animal clothing and accessories to be sold in our future Etsy shop. We also learned how to harvest fluff without destroying poly pellet bags in the plushes – in fact, we learned there were poly pellet bags in the plushes! Additionally, we created some super cute key chains from the animal tails and even mounted an adorable zebra head to be sold as a wall hanging.
